Twilight Golf
31 Jan 2024Twilight golf has had a fantastic season this summer with up to 35 players joining each week. We have also had the pleasure of a number of visitors from other clubs and some international tourists joining in. The weather has been kind and the course in mint condition enabling some terrific individual scores.
It seems odd to be advising that the final competition for the Twilight Cup will be on Wednesday 6th March. This is due to Easter being early this year and having a week spare in the event that weather delays the finals.
To qualify players have had to play 8 rounds minimum and the top 2 qualifiers will play off for the cup,as well as compete for the prize pool. The finals night results are based on the average of a player's 8 best scores plus the score you get on finals night. This year many player's average for their best 8 rounds is close to 20. Competition will be tight for the cup. Overall the nightly average is between 15 and 17 stableford points for the 9 holes. On finals night there will also be the weekly haggle so players that haven't done 8 rounds can compete.
Special thanks go to Hotel Otoromiro in Governors Bay and Min Sarginson Real Estate for their generous sponsorship of the closetst to the pin competition each week. This is greatly appreciated by all players and especially those that get to take out a prize.
Speaking of Governors Bay there has been some very keen rivalry between players that turn left leaving the club and those turning right. Some of the enthusiastic new players have seen their handicaps come down a bit throughout the duration of the competition and this has led to some high scores being recorded. It has been great to see their progress and enjoyment of the competition.
So far the Twilight competition has provided over $700 towards the reservoir fund and given out $1700 in prizes. Finals night has a moderate kitty, all thanks to the players and proceeds from the weekly BBQ and our sponsors. There are 4 more rounds before finals night, so come along if you are looking for 9 holes and some mid week entertainment.
